We were the Double Diamond Skittles Team. Our home alley was at The Lyndon on Clare Road in Cardiff and played under the Combined Cardiff Clubs Skittle League. We disbaded as a Division 3 team who valued a good game of skittles and a good laugh rather than getting all serious over winning or losing, which is just as well sometimes.
We sadly finished as a team in 2017 due to too few players and we were unable to find enough experienced players to join.
Skittles is a game played on an alley similar to a ten pin alley but with nine, usually plastic, pins set in a diamond at the far end. Three wooden balls per turn are rolled down the alley and the size of these balls and the placement of the pins means that it's easily possible to roll a ball without hitting any pins, and quite frequently happens. This is known as a boulter. There are twelve players per team in each match and each rolls five times with the home team rolling first and the rest of the rolls are played in turn. If all nine pins are knocked down before the three balls are rolled then all nine are replaced. This is known as a spare and any more pins knocked down are added to the score. It is also a very rare occurrence. A good average for a player to make is five per roll making twenty five per game. Any player who can keep this average is well valued :-)
